interdisciplinary dance artist, performer and teacher
Mare Hieronimus is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary dance artist, performer and teacher whose choreographic work lies at the intersection of contemporary dance, sound, story and imagery. Often working as a solo performer, her work seeks to generate atmospheres that are rich, layered and visceral, that mysteriously inspire the imagination of the viewer.
Through the exploration of non-linear storytelling, and through softening the separation between performer/observer,
she seeks to re-imagine threads of archetype, myth and personal/collective memory within a contemporary context, placing the viewer inside of a world where dreams and visions come awake in scores of many-layered potential meaning.

Seven dancers perched on a wall and wrapped in sculptural beeswax and lanolin costumes
are slowly melting away, progressing in euphoria and exhaustion as if approaching the sun,
melting until their souls escape their ephemeral bodies and disintegrate into light.
