Influences
As a teacher, Maré draws upon her studies of contemporary modern dance, Laban Movement Analysis, Yoga, somatic based practices including Feldenkrais/Awareness through Movement, Skinner Releasing Technique, Alex
ander Technique, and her study of the the Human Energy Field.

She has taught extensively for the last 12 years at Institutions, Festivals, studios and Health Centers including as a visiting artist at Bucknell University,  Washington College (MD), University of Maryland/College Park, The Isadora Dance Festival in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, Glen Echo Park/Hall of Mirrors in Washington DC, and the Ruscombe Mansion Holistic Health Center (MD).

She currently teaches at Long Island University/Brooklyn Campus, Queensboro Community College, and Packer Collegiate Institute, and holds a schedule of regular classes in Brooklyn, NY.

Classes are focused towards a specific movement discipline (Yoga, Contemporary Dance, Movement Integration), but are always layered with information from the different movement modalities that she has practiced and studied.

Classes/Workshops
She is available to conduct residencies, classes, workshops and retreats at colleges, universities, studios and centers in the following areas of study/inquiry:

Yoga
Alignment and flow based Yoga, influenced by elements of Integral, Vinyasa, and Kundalini styles.

Movement Integration/Somatic Practices
An integrative and holistic approach to the body, incorporating elements of Bartenieff Fundamentals, Developmental Movement, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais/Awareness Through Movement and Skinner Releasing Technique.

Contemporary Dance
Grounding the body through floor-work that includes somatic practices, developmental movement and Yoga, the class eventually moves to standing taking all of this connectedness into nuanced, whole body, expressive phrase-work.

Introduction to LMA/BF
The foundations of Laban Movement Analysis (Body, Effort, Shape, Space) and Bartenieff Fundamentals (The Basic Six) are explored.

Dance Improvisation
Using Laban Movement Analysis as a way to engage the moving body in space, the class focuses on the creation of improvisational movement scores and structures that unleash creative potential.

Performance States and Presence
Using set phrase-work and improvised structures as a springboard, performance presence is explored through the investigation of energetic qualities and dynamic states of being.

Continual Transitioning Series
Along side these more conventional classes, Mare  has developed a series of workshops that exist at the intersection of movement integration, healing and creativity.  Each class builds upon the previous, but can be taken in or out of order, as a whole, or individually.

Inner Architecture
Includes the exploration of the inner architecture of the body, the skeletal system, bony landmarks of support, geometric relationships between these landmarks, and the energetic body template.  Facilitates inner support of the body, assists in connecting to sense of self and clarity of intent.

Force and Flow
Includes the exploration of the lines of natural force/gravity through the body, the suspension of the body in space, and the inner flow of support along these lines.  Assists in integrating disparate parts of the self and creating balance, facilitates flow of energy through the whole system.  Assists in unlocking creative potential.

Trace Forms
Includes the exploration of how the lines of support moving through the body system can carry out into space.  Geometric
forms are used as an imaginary matrix of support to access full movement potential and clarity of intent.  Assists in the connection of the relationship between inner self and outer environment, facilitates a more balanced state of being between these two polarities.  Builds relationship between inner creative flow and spatial intent/external purpose.

Continual Transitioning
Includes the exploration of the principle of continual transitioning, the concept that we exist inside of a constant state of fluid motion.  Inner architectural support, lines of flow, and geometric trace forms are used to explore this fluid matrix of inner and outer support.  Activates creative potential and flow, as inner clarity of intent moves out into the environment, and then cycles back in again.  Facilitates a greater sense of connection to this continuous living cycle.

Student Testimonials

“When I was first introduced to Maré Hieronimus' Yoga class I had already studied Yoga for more than two decades with a variety of teachers. I did not take me long to recognize in Maré an exceptional Yoga practitioner and teacher. Maré can evoke an atmosphere of calm and sacredness which does justice to the ancient tradition of Yoga. I was particularly impressed with Maré's appreciation of Yoga's more subtler aspects such as the psyche - body connection. Her classes have a healing quality which not only builds physical strength and flexibility but also moves energetically towards uniting psyche and body.”

“Maré appears to have a profound knowledge of how to tap into the body's energy centers with breath work and movement as well as an understanding of the connection between the physical body and the invisible subtle body. I have taken her classes for a number of years by now and can first hand attest to their rejuvenating and healing quality. Without hesitation I can recommend Maré as a Yoga instructor to students at any level of expertise.”
